Typical Student Practical Test Checklist

Applicant Documents

Bring the following items to the test:

  • Government issued photo ID

  • Pilot certificate or Student Pilot certificate

  • Current FAA medical certificate (or BasicMed if applicable)

  • Knowledge test results

  • Pilot logbook(s) with all required endorsements

  • Instructor recommendation / endorsements for the practical test

  • Completed IACRA application (or FAA Form 8710)

  • FTN number

  • Examiner fee payment

Logbook Requirements

Your logbook must clearly show:

  • All required flight time

  • Practical test endorsement

  • Knowledge test endorsement

  • Cross-country training

  • Night training (if required)

  • Instrument training (if required)

  • Solo endorsements

  • Aeronautical experience requirements met

Aircraft Documents

The aircraft must have the following documents onboard:

  • Airworthiness Certificate

  • Registration

  • Operating Limitations / POH / AFM

  • Weight and Balance information

  • STC supplements

Aircraft Maintenance Records

Be prepared to show documentation verifying:

  • Annual inspection

  • 100-hour inspection (if applicable)

  • ELT inspection

  • Transponder inspection

  • Pitot-static inspection (if IFR aircraft)

  • AD compliance

  • Aircraft logbooks available

Aircraft Requirements

The aircraft used for the practical test must:

  • Be airworthy

  • Meet the requirements of the Airman Certification Standards (ACS)

  • Have adequate fuel for the duration of the test

  • Have all required equipment operational

  • Be properly equipped for the type of checkride

Flight Planning Materials

Applicants should arrive prepared with:

  • Completed cross-country flight plan

  • Weight and balance calculations

  • Performance calculations

  • Weather briefing

  • NOTAM review

  • Navigation log

Pilot Equipment

Recommended items to bring:

  • Headset

  • Sectional charts / navigation charts

  • FAR/AIM or electronic reference

  • E6B or electronic flight computer

  • Plotter

  • View-limiting device (for instrument portions)

  • iPad or EFB (if used)

  • Kneeboard

  • Pens / pencils

Electronic Flight Bag (If Used)

Ensure:

  • Device is fully charged

  • Backup power source available

Required charts and documents are downloaded and accessible offline
